It's hard saving up nowadays especially if you're not wise with your money. But for us Filipinos, it's often thought that there is this unofficial tradition that we either have to splurge on our first paycheck or give it to our parents to attract good luck. Surprisingly though, I recently found out that a lot of us ultimately splurge ourselves on food instead of other items through the country's number one online shopping website, Lazada (lazada.com.ph).
Based on its recent online surveys, payday for Filipinos is more about food than anything else as 47.4% of the participants say they spend the same with payday meals and regular meals, while 26% spend on 21% claim to spend twice as much on payday meals. Also, 55% of the respondents reported they spend their first paycheck on treating their family to a lunch or dinner while 37.5% immediately associate any bonus salary to treating their family to a meal, sometimes dreading the day when their families, friends and even on some occasions, their co-workers ask for a payday "blowout".

But for most, the rest of the earnings go to bills! Or at least majority of it, as 74% of respondents say that during the 15th and 30th are mostly the time to pay their dues. 88% say that bills
(electricity, water, phone, rent, credit card) take up the bulk of their
salaries and it really doesn't help at all that 54% of them have experienced salary
deduction due to lateness or absence. It also doesn't help
that many of us Filipino workers experience nuisance just to get our salary from ATMs traffic. I mean, imagine the long lines! According to Lazada, 24% of respondents say that payday traffic bothers them most
while 15% mention that mall overcrowding is also a huge turn off for ready spenders. Especially for us ladies who are ready to shop till we drop.
Oh! And speaking of which, Lazada also revealed that majority of shoppers are females during paydays as most items sold are in the health and beauty category. Well a girl has always got to look her best. Am I right, ladies? Besides, people still have to allocate a
little extra for the small ticket essentials to look and feel good about
themselves.
But with all the hassle and bustle of paydays, it's a good thing e-commerce has helped lighten the load of payday inconvenience. Lazada for instance, allows
customers to look for best value items without having to go through the ATM
lines or the mall crowds. Lazada also offers deferred payment options to give
Filipinos more choices on how to manage their hard-earned cash.
And to help bring the feeling of shopping spree satisfaction on payday, Lazada is launching its
