I remember the first time I have seen the film Ina, Kapatid, Anak, directed by Lino Brocka, it was a powerhouse cast giving nothing but amazing standing-ovation worthy performances. It was a powerful collection of the greatest names from Lolita Rodriguez, the young and gorgeous Rio Locsin, Ric Rodrigo, Laurice Guillen and of course Charito Solis. To any cinephile, the film is an irresistible hit discussing the plight of estranged sisters and a complicated web of emotions that has long been restrained. When I heard that ABS-CBN is going to relive the movie and translate it to the small screens, I was a bit shaken but surprised because no Brocka fan would want his masterpiece deconstructed and horribly taken care of. But the team of Don Cuaresma and Jojo Saguin from the success of 100 Days to Heaven and the creative juices flowing out of writer Danica Domingo’s (who was behind the top-rating Tayong Dalawa) mind made me feel excited for this adaptation. What could be more exhilarating is the return of TV and film greats like Eddie Gutierrez, Ronaldo Valdez, Pilar Pilapil, Janice de Belen, Cherry Pie Picache and Ariel Rivera with this generation’s batch of young superstars. Ina, Kapatid, Anak, as we all know, also has Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, Xian Lim and Enchong Dee on board. Yesterday, I was lucky to see the advance screening of this soon-to-be primetime hit. And boy, it was amazing! I couldn’t wait to see more of their episodes. One thing to look forward to is the dynamics of the cast members who were all top-caliber performers.
