True Romance

Designer JC Buendia calls himself a true romantic, as well as an Anglophile and a Francophile. A clairvoyant once told him that in Egyptian times , he was a high priestess and a geisha as well. These varying strains of restraint and abandon, passion and logic were all seen in his first ever gala show, JC Buendia: 25, presented by Metro Society. He designed clothes of quiet power, pure beauty and absolutely impeccable tailoring. He balanced the formality of the occasion with cheeky quotes such as, "I was always fascinated by Miss Piggy and Maurice Arcache who peppered their speech with moi and tres." Scenes from movies he has loved and obsessed over flashed on the screen to introduce each segment of the show. One particular quote stayed with me: "In my parallel universe, it rains cherry blossom petals." If only we could all enter such an enchanted universe.
