Message in a Bottle

And a very stylish bottle at that!

I was having dinner in a friend's house, and as I looked at his massive collection of Coke bottles, I noticed that he had the chic Diet Coke fashion collaborations, and I just had to have a photo of these miniature style symbols. From right to left, the bottles are: the Ugly Betty bottle with Sex and the City stylist and The Devil Wears PRADA Pat Field's signature, since she was also the stylist of the said TV series; the first Karl Lagerfeld series; the scarf print by Salvatore Ferragamo; the modern monogram by Armani Jeans; the graphic drawing by Gianfranco Ferre; and the bright yellow bottle of Selfridges.

Knowing that it is the 100th year of Coke in the Philippines, I began to imagine what some of the local designers could design as a Coke bottle. Rajo Laurel could draw a big ballgown. Joey Samson could design a deconstructed suit. Inno Sotto could put his distinctive silhouette with his flowing locks, a la Karl. What a truly happy collaboration it would be!

This is a red and black rendition of a popular Ferragamo scarf print of jungle motifs.

The Armani Jeans bottle is minimal and modern, with a playful mix of its monogram.

The Gianfranco Ferre bottle features a dramatic bow, one of the house's signature touches.

Karl Lagerfeld is seriously addicted to Diet Coke, so he did another collaboration with them, these bottles are from his first series.

The popular London shop Selfridges marked their 100th year with their own version of the Coke bottle.

The pink leopard print is a Pat Field favorite.

Diet Coke is the drink of choice of fashion people and these bottles are the tangible proof of this obsession.
